Folded Napkin

At Cornell University, some interesting research is taking place. A bacteria and virus detecting napkin that utilizes nanotechnology is being developed. In this time of contaminated spinach and other vegetables, let’s hope this development comes to market soon. According to Sci Fi Tech,

The napkin will contain nanofibers that are bound to certain antibodies, and when those antibodies latch on to specific elements the cloth will change colors. It could be used from detecting anything from E. Coli in meat to the flu virus on your kitchen table to cooties on your little sister’s face.

It also seems that this napkin won’t be too expensive and we could possibly see it in a variety of different everyday situations. It’s still a few years away so exercise your usual caution and common sense when it comes to avoiding germs and viruses.

High Tech Gadget Cutting Scale

Another great addition for your kitchen of the future is here. From the design team of Jess Griffin and Jim Termeer, we have a high tech cutting board with a marked area for weighing your ingredients as you cut them. In a totally futuristic style, the weight is written for you in electronic red ink right on the cutting board. This is a useful product for the advanced chef, or someone cooking those more difficult recipes that call for a level of precision beyond a pinch and a dash. The board is 10 inches x 15 inches and measures weight in grams.

Electrolux Infinite Cooking System

Electolux is scheduled to release the Electrolux Infinite Cooking System this fall. The system is unique in that it uses induction to cook. As I recall this means that the range creates a rapidly alternating magnetic field through your pots or pans when placed on the unit. This magnetic field causes the pot itself to become the heating element while range top remains cool to touch.

Cook Surf Sensors

from the electrolux website

The cook surface diameters respond to both the presence and precise size of a pan. The heat is transferred directly to the pan.

Also:

In short, the pot becomes the heating element while the cooktop remains cool. Induction cooking is precise. Temperature changes are instantaneous and, for the purposes of keeping foods warm, can remain constant indefinitely without over-cooking. As the cook surface remains cool, foods do not burn or stick, making cleanup easy. And, compared to either gas or electric cooktops, energy consumption is significantly less.

I really like this idea. Especially when you take into account the energy and time savings. Plus, look how cool cooking surface looks. It’s really some futuristic ultra modern George Jetson technology. Great for showing off or impressing friends and family.
